Skipping Right Along...

So, the Owl costume actually never got finished, as my daughter wouldn't go NEAR it...so, several hours put into this and you know, I just didn't feel it was worth any more of my time!  Oh well...it'll be on the shelf for next year if I'm lucky enough that she wants to be an owl!

Onto Christmas projects...I've happily been limited this year as my whole family is for the first time going down to Mexico for the holidays this year!  So I concentrated my creative efforts on the kids, as it should be :)

This year, cozy French character pillows after my Nephew, Niece and Daughter.
Enjoy!

More to come for 2013!!

More Owl Love

Here's my latest work in progress...an owl costume for my daughter for Hallowe'en!  We're going to have a blast answering the door to all the ghouls and goblins!  I Figure we can still get away with this maybe one more year before we will be out there ourselves!

Check back soon for the finished project!

Cape Time!

I made this cape for my 2.5 yr old, and sadly, I can barely keep it on her long enough for a picture.  It's got matching pink lining :) I do hope she'll enjoy dressing up, soon!  I will be making her an owl costume for Hallowe'en, so it better be worn!!

Another day, another pie

So it's been a great summer of amazing weather and adventures in the great outdoors. Hiking, fishing, boating, lounging, exploring...

We made a big purchase we've been dreaming of for years, a gorgeous shiny new canoe!  Very exciting and will hold many years of fun for our family, I am sure :)

We rented a cabin in the woods for  4 nights on beautiful Quadra Island, a magical place of big trees, beaches, peace and quiet.

We have feasted on Blackberries over and over again, mostly in pie form and happily gobbled up right from the prickly bushes.  Lately there is a lot of evidence of the bears enjoying the same!

On a textile note, I have started giving private lessons from my home, and as it turns out, I love to teach what I love to do!! Go figure.  I am looking into developing a sewing course and hold some workshops leading up to the Christmas season.

I've also made the plunge and yesterday brought home three industrial sewing machines! I have longed to make this upgrade for many years now, and am now equipped to do most anything!

Here's my new web site for reference HERE Check it out!!

Fresh food

We've been enjoying the lane about a block away for the past two months.  First we harvested Salmon berries, now raspberries and soon are the blackberries!  Can't wait!

I have really missed having a garden...but yesterday after being invited to pick from the neighbours garden, my daughter and I picked fresh beets, carrots and greens and more raspberries, YUM!

Fresh, fresh salad with extras I already had, and a raspberry tart type dish...I have tried many times to make dessert in filo pastry and it always disappoints, so next on my list of recipes to try is homemade pastry dough.  Looks nice though!

Oh!  And here's my new favourite snack.  1 piece whole wheat toast, 2 tbs almond butter and 1/2 nectarine, DELICIOUS!  Goes well with fruit shake and coffee :)

MORE FOOD FIRSTS

I've had fun in the kitchen these past few days making new recipes...things I have been meaning to try to replace pre-made ingredients such as bbq sauce as mentioned in a post earlier this week.

Last night I made pizza crust from scratch for the first time, which was a success, and easy but more clean up of course, and planning ahead as it takes about an hour for the dough to get ready...I will do this again, but can't say it'll be everytime...we do eat pizza often.
This one is pepperoni, garlic fresh oregano and basil with mozza

Here we have turkey, orange peppers, goat cheese, dill and mozza.  This one won the prize!

And here is a leftover piece revisited today, with sliced avocado, salt, pepper and mexican chilli powder.  Mmm!

Yep, Embroidery too.

Yes, so I dabble in a lot of textile applications, and have had my bouts of embroidery too!  Here's a sample of the last one I put down and had forgotten for many months until yesterday!

First Time for Everything

And it's my first time making BBQ sauce from scratch, and I can honestly say that I probably will not by buying it again (...unless it's some irresistible gourmet goodness) It was easy, fast and delicious!!
